Do you know any slaves? Probably you don’t think so. They are not making bricks and building pyramids like our ancestors did in Egypt.
But today we are confronted with other ways of slavery. Sometimes imposed by someone else and sometimes imposed by ourselves.
Do you know anyone who wants to stop smoking, but can’t? Or has an eating disorder? Someone who is ONLY thinking about business? Someone who is addicted to drugs, clothes, shoes, the phone, and the list goes on and on.Or someone who is stuck in a toxic relationship?
Just as H”S saved our ancestors from Egypt and brought them to Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, we can also set ourselves free from “slavery” by attaching ourselves to Torah and Mitzvahs. Only when we live a little higher, we can really set ourselves free.
The Haggadah not only tells us the story of how we became free, but most importantly, it tells us WHO made us free.
