The night before the Se …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

The night before the Seder, we search the entire house for chametz. The house should be already clean and ready for the Holiday. There is a custom to have someone place ten pieces of chametz (I recommend uncooked pasta or pita bread so you don’t have any crumbs) in ten separate plastic bags or wrapped in tin foil. One person (usually the father of the house) places these chametz around the house, then by candle light everyone in the home goes together searching for it, and we really find chametz.
Our sages teach that our 10 sefitot (3 intellectual:wisdom, understanding and knowledge and the seven emotional attributes: love, discipline, compassion, endurance, humility, bonding, and majesty) can sometimes be misused, when this happens we behave with our yetzer hara (evil inclination) which is fueled by our EGO. By searching tonight we should delve deep inside and look very deep which character traits need to be corrected within ourselves.
The first step in any situation that needs to be corrected is to be honest about which bad habits or character traits need to be worked on so we can remove any faults that we might have.
