Today we count the 34th day of the Omer with “Yesod Shebe Hod” (Bonding/Foundation within Humility).
When we build something the most important part it’s the foundation. You might make a beautiful building, but if the foundation is not strong eventually it’s going to colapse.
Think about what type of life you want to have, what type of children you want to raise up? What type of people you want to attract? Everything starts from the foundation. We cannot take short cuts in life and expect to have what you dream off.
Shabbat is a good place to start. It gives you the right foundation to everything else in your life. Recognizing that there is a Creator who created a world with wisdom and understanding, with purpose and meaning is the first step to building an eternal edifice.
When we STOP one day and we cease to create we are telling our children “there is a boss, there is something greater than you.” And this gives humility.
Apart from the beauty of sitting down to a beautiful set table with delicious food, with no hurries, no distractions, no tv, no smart phones makes us appreciate those who are with us. We speak to each other, we show our children that we care about them and that they are important to us, we listen to them and what they have to say. We sanctify our food and we find pleasure in the day, which teaches our children that all our hard work is meant for Shabbat, there is a purpose and a meaning to it.
When we take care of Shabbat with Joy and Love we are building a foundation for generations to come, for who knows what life brings? One thing is sure and constant and that is “Shabbat.”
