In Parasha Naso there is a verse that says: “A man’s holies shall be his, and what a man gives to the Kohen shall be his.”(Bamidbar 5:10)
Whatever we share with others is guaranteed safe. No one can ever take it away from you; it cannot be stolen or lost, because H”S is watching over it.
The real tzedakah comes not on how much one gives, but what a person must endure in order to give; that is the real tzedakah. Some B”H have the means to give much and this is what they should do, it’s their responsibility because H”S entrusted them with His money so that person can administer it for Him. But there are some, and this is the majority, who have to sometimes not buy new shoes because they have to give their 10% of what they earn and they are struggling to pay their bills. It is this people who have the most merit, because they are giving their livelihood which has been earned with blood, sweat, and tears.
H”S values every drop of toil and it is safe kept by Him for you.
There is a joke of a guy that dies and goes up to heaven, but the gates are locked and he can’t get in. An angel comes and asks if he can help him. The man says I’m waiting to enter heaven but the gates are locked.
The angel asks his name and looks into a list and says:”I’m sorry Sr. but I can’t let you in. It shows me here that you didn’t give the tzedakah you had to give. The man says:” I brought my checkbook with me, how much do I owe?” The angel answers him:” I’m sorry, but here we only receive the receipts.”
