“And they told him,and they said,we came to the land where you sent us. And it’s flowing with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.”(Bamidbar 13:27)
Rashi cites theSages on this verse that,”Every falsehood that does not start with some truth will not last.” Rabbi Shimanowitz used to say:
“Unfortunately, today there are many people that mistakenly feel that every truth that is not mixed with falsehood will not last.”
When the spies went to scout the Land of Israel they came back with a report that was completely blown out of proportion. Although there was some truth to their views, they were also taken out of context and edited in a way to create fear and anguish amongst the Jewish people.
Today we live in a world of instant communication. Everything is posted and exposed for the whole world to see. Sadly, many of these mediums bring much hatred, miscommunication, false reporting, etc… people’s minds are exposed to so much information in every spectrum of our lives (health, politics, diets, exercises, fashion, you name it…) that we must be very careful what information we allow in our minds. Now more than ever we really need to get the facts from the truth and do our homework before we accept any information as the reality of the situation.
