This week we learn from …

This week we learn from the Maharal of Prague that the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination) disguised itself as that which gives us satisfaction.
What is satisfaction? Satisfaction is not only physical. The proof lies in that we observe some people who have everything materially and they are yet not satisfied with their lives.
Nor satisfaction is only spiritual, because if a person doesn’t have his basic needs met, he won’t be satisfied.
True satisfaction is a way of taking the physical and giving it spiritual depth and meaning.
We all have a void inside of us. Some people fill it with food, others with shopping, some with forbidden and destructive substances and acts.
Everyone yearns for meaning, this is the empty space in us. H”S put it there so we would fill it with meaning and purpose. The problem is that the Yetzer Hara sales slogan is:”This will give you satisfaction in life.” It tricks us so we fill our empty space with more emptiness.
Don’t allow empty spaces in your life. Your life should be full. Fill it with meaningful relationships, with volunteering for a cause that is close to your heart, be a mentor to someone, take that space and do something you love (paint, music, exercise, read a book, go to a Torah class, etc..)the list can go on and on.
Take the “Vacancy” sign out of your mind and go out and find something that will transform your world and the ones around you.
Then when the Yetzer Hara comes knocking you can say to it:” sorry, there’s no space for you here.”
