Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a blessed week.
This week we walk with Parashah Noach. “These are the generations of Noach. Noach was a completely righteous man in his generation.”(Bereshit 6:9)
Rashi cites two Talmudic opinions regarding this pasuk. One is that even in an evil generation he was righteous and if he would lived in a righteous generation he would’ve been even more righteous. The other opinion is that if Noach had lived in a righteous generation like Abraham’s generation, he wouldn’t of been so special.
The Chasam Sofer commented on this that both opinions are correct.
We are all influenced by our surroundings, it is very important to choose well the people we surround ourselves with. Definitely, if Noach would of been righteous in Abraham’s generation he would of been even more righteous because he would of chosen to be close to Abraham.
What was lacking in Noach that wouldn’t of made him righteous in Abraham’s generation?
He didn’t try to teach others G-d’s ways. He just told them there was going to be a flood and that is why he was building an Ark, but he didn’t educate them to be righteous. Abraham in the other hand changed the world. With love and kindness he influenced the world to believe in One G-d and to live a righteous life.
Maybe if Noach hanged around Abraham he would of cared more.
