“One who spills the blood of a person in a person his blood shall be spilled, for in the image of G-d He has made man.”(Bereshit 9:6)
The Alshich (prominent Rabbi of the 16th Century), explains this verse to include one who embarrassed another person. When a person is embarrassed his blood flow changes and his face gets red, and the sages have equated embarrassing someone with murder.
The Torah teaches us why we should take utmost precautions not to embarrass someone else, not even a child.
Each person is created in the image of G-d and therefore must be shown great respect. To embarrass someone else is to embarrass H”S.
Many people by nature like to joke, they don’t have bad intentions and sometimes they make fun of someone else just for the fun of it. Here the Torah comes and says not to do this. Maybe it may be funny for the one saying it and for those who are around, but the person made fun off won’t be happy and feel embarrassed.
Sometimes parents and teachers tend to make fun of their children, this will create a lot of pain in the child and affect him for the rest of their lives.
So next time you are going to say something that can embarrass someone else, stop and bite your tongue.
