“Beloved is man who is created in the image of G-d” (Pirkei Avot 3:18).
When H”S made the universe “ex nihilo”(something from nothing), out of love for man, He left it unfinished. He wanted us to complete His handiwork, to be His partners in creation.
This is why He gave us the Torah, the Blueprint of Creation, to give us guide and show us the way through His Mitzvots.
At the same time He also wanted us to rest one day.
Just as we work,toil,and bring the world to perfection during the week, on Shabbat we stop all our creative process and let it be.
