“Hashem shall do battle for you, and you shall remain silent.” (Shemot 14:14)
If one had to define the underlying motif of Parashah Beshalach, it would be Emunah and Bitachon (Faith and Trust in G-d). From the very beginning, as the nascent Jewish nation left Egypt and had to walk through the Red Sea, then walked through the desert and were protected by the clouds of glory, Myriams well, and the Mana until we come to the last verse which describes the triumphant battle against Amalek. The Parashah is replete with instances of complete faith and trust.
The power of faith is awesome and can really bring salvation in the blink of an eye.
In the Midrash is recorded how Nachson Ben Aminadav came to the border of the Yam Suf (Red Sea), the people were crying and scared because they could not continue and the Egyptians were coming behind them. Some wanted to return, others began to pray, but Nachson Ben Aminadav went with H”S word and began walking into the sea, when the water came up to his nose he gave one more step forward and that is when the miracle happened and the sea parted in two allowing the Jewish people to cross on dry land. Once they crossed, the sea closed again and the Egyptians that were persecuting them drowned and died.
We must realize that the blessing is not commensurate with the endeavor, nevertheless we must always do our part to show H”S that we trust and believe in Him.
Many years ago we were going through some financial tough times. My husband asked me to be more measured in our Shabbat dinners. I looked up and said “H”S you put us through this and I know you are going to take us out of it, but Shabbat is not a compromise I will never do less even if I have to stop spending in other things.” This is when the Red Sea parted for us and everything took a turn for the best!”
