On Thursday’s we learn how to battle our Yetzer Hara (evil inclination).
At the end of Parasha “Beshalach,” Amalek came and fought against Israel at Redifim.
The gematria (numerical value) of the word Amalek is 240 equal to the word “Safek” which means doubt.
“Doubt” comes 100%from our Yetzer Hara, it’s a tool it uses to paralyze and frighten us.
The physical attack of the nation of Amalek was the outer manifestation of the spiritual attack of the people’s inner Amalek- their doubt regarding H”S constant care and involvement in their lives.
This inner Amalek continues to plague us till today, it sows doubt and cools our love for G-d and passion for learning Torah and doing Mitzvot. It tries to convince us that we are insignificant and that
G-d is taking care of much grander things. For example a person might ask himself: “Does H”S really care if I turn a switch of light on Shabbat? In the grander scale of life, does this really matter?”
And the truth is that it really does, it does matter, if this is H”S will for us then it is important for Him.
Just as the Jews fought Amalek in the desert, we continue to fight this long battle of Amalek throughout every generation, sometimes it comes as a person, a movement, an idea, and always its inside of us. It’s a constant battle that has to be fought until Meshiach comes, when everything will become crystal clear to us and all doubts will disappear.
