Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed week.
This week we read Parasha “Vaiakhel” (congregate),
which begins with Moses descending for the third and last time from Mt.Sinai and congregates the Jewish people to tell them that they have been forgiven for the sin of the golden calf and now they are commanded to build the Mishkan (Tabernacle).
“The people brought their gold bracelets, nose rings, rings, and hoops..”
These for types of objects that the women donated alude to four aspects of proper Jewish education.
Bracelets: we need to be firm in our arm, even if the children behave well we need to be firm in bringing enthusiasm when it comes to learning.
Nose Rings: we need to develop a strong sense of smell, so we can help our children find good friends who are good examples.
As they say “tell me who you hang around with and I’ll tell you who you are.”
Rings: show our children the proper path, guiding them with love and sweetness towards the teachings of the Torah and show them how not to follow damaging paths.
Hoops: Learn to listen to your children’s conversations with others, because they learn to talk from the example the grown ups in their lives give them; if there is something bad about the way they speak, this comes from the adults in their lives.
