Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy, and productive week.
This week we read Parasha “Metzora,” which is a continuation of the previous Parasha “Tazria.”
Last week the Torah taught us about the grave sin of “Lashon Hara” (evil speech),and the consequences it brought with it. This week the Parasha deals with the Metzora (name given to the person who has been afflicted with tzara’as (type of leprosy).
“This shall be the Torah of the one stricken with tzara’as on the day of his purification, and he shall be brought to the priest.”(Vayikra 14:2)
The Ibn Ezra (noted Jewish commentator of the Middle Ages) notes that the Torah states “the person will be brought to the priest.” The reason is because after the tzara’as clears up, he will not want to bring the offerings that he is responsible of bringing.
When a person is going through a hardship in his life, he usually pleads with G-d and makes promises of changes in his life. But once everything is settled, usually people forget their promises. Maybe it is because some people find it difficult to meet their responsibilities.
A person with integrity will not only keep his promises but he will do it joyfully and with pleasure. A person who is the opposite will need to be coerced into keeping his responsibilities.
