Today we count the 13th …

Today we count the 13th Day of the Omer with “Yesod shebe Gevurah” (Bonding within Discipline). The combination of these two sefirot teaches us the importance of “UNITY” and the discipline within it.
Since tonight is Shabbat I want to put this teaching in the context of bonding amongst the Jewish people and the family unit.
Shabbat is a day in which we merge with G-d, we trespass to another dimension in which we get a glimpse and a tasting of Moshiach times.
We see how this combination of bonding and discipline is what makes this possible.
As a family, one must make everyone in the family have a part in the Shabbat preparations. Children should be given a task that is applicable to their age, this will give them a sense of belonging and responsibility at the same time they will feel appreciated and important giving them a healthy self esteem. The husband should also help in anyway he can. It’s a beautiful midot (character trait) for a husband to bring the flowers and prepare the candles for the wife, this brings feelings of love and appreciation and fosters and strengthens the Shalom Bayit of the home.
In a community we also see this when people of the congregation volunteer their time and resources needed for the celebration of Shabbat and maintenance of the Shul.
The bonding and the discipline put together make a dynamic duo which creates the right foundation for the continuation and growth of the Jewish people, which yields to the ultimate bond with H”S.
