Today not only we count the 16th day of the Omer with “Gevura shebe Tiferet” (Discipline within Mercy), but we also celebrate Rosh Chodesh Iyar, the only month in which the Omer is counted for all its 29 days. The month of Iyar is a month of healing. The Kabbalist see it in the month’s acronym “Ani A-dnai Rofecha” (I am G-d your healer). They say that the rain waters of this month have healing powers.
I recently heard an incredible talk given by Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein in which he explains of how we can break through when we need something important in our lives like health, children, parnasah, or a Shiduch. H”S has the key to all these blessings.
He gave an example of a very wealthy man that didn’t want to come to Shul anymore because he wasn’t able to pray. Since he was such a dignified gentleman people would constantly come up to him asking for money, advice, and so on. So his quandary was that it was better to stay home and pray in tranquility than to have to suffer so much in order to pray. He was going through some hardship in his personal life and felt he should take his prayer very seriously. To which the Rabbi answered: “you have it all wrong, all these people that would seem like a nuance in reality are the key for the blessing you so much need. If you want a miracle, you have to make a miracle.” What he meant was that when we go against our comfort zone and we do something extraordinary, like taking care of all these people and also find a way to pray with Kavana (intention),you indeed are making a miracle.
In my own personal life I have experienced this. Whenever I stretch myself to host people for Shabbat or I give more tzedakah than I should, or I take precious time I need for my endeavors and give it to someone else, H”S unlocks that door that I so much need to get through.
Gevurah shebe Tiferet is exactly this and the month of Iyar, a month of daily refinement and conscious growth is exactly what brings out the miracles we so much need.
